Role Mining Overview
Role mining is the process of discovering logical groupings through the examination of access patterns to enable the construction, and use, or should be of properly designed roles as part of your access management program.
A successful role mining exercise provides clarity with a minimum of effort expended, and answers key questions like:
- What is the quality of your data regarding accounts, roles, and authorizations?
- Where do you have orphaned accounts? Unused entitlements?
- What can be gained by implementing a role management strategy? How much effort will it take to establish roles?
- What risks exist in your current authorization structure?
- What are the right next steps?

How does the Role Mining process work?
Provision
You'll receive a virtual machine with NEXIS 4 software installed.Data Import

Role creation is simulated at multiple org levels and results validated using sample departments.Presentation
The results are reviewed in a workshop setting that allows for Q&A and a discussion of go forward options.
Role Discovery
The Role Discovery process is designed to minimize the time and effort spent by your team, as expert consultants work with your data to produce and present the results. You’ll be asked to provide input to facilitate the provision of the virtual machine, and to export your data. The final presentation workshop typically runs for 2-3 hours.
Roles created during the discovery engagement are easily imported into Clear Skye IGA. Should you decide you would like to keep the analysis and modeling capabilities beyond the role discovery engagement, the Nexis software can be licensed through Clear Skye on an ongoing basis.
